I have an idea how to further expand the game and put an even stronger incentive into playing on. I don't know if it might work, but, well, here I go:
My idea is, that each faction could construct buildings and research faction-wide upgrades in concerted efforts. These buildings/researches are offered to the members of a faction in a similar way like quests and have a ressource cost, that can be paid by donations from all the factions members. Of course, this means, they should be really, really, really, REALLY, really expensive. I'm thinking about for or five digit numbers concerning pure resources alone. (If the developers can somehow see how many resources are contributed to quests in total, this could give a rough frame of size of how much buildings should cost. It should at least take a while for a faction to construct one.)
So for example - just pulling numbers out of my head - a building costs 60.000 Topaz Crystals, 120.000 Fungus Spores, 1000 Heat Pipes and 1500 Mirrors (no idea if this will be enough to be challenging), any player of that faction can, at any time, contribute as many ressources as he likes to the construction of the building. Once, enough ressources have been gathered from all players, the building is ready and provides all faction members with a bonus.
What bonus? Well, way to get creative here! Could (and should) be anything. Some examples I could think of:
Hydroponic Garden: Provides +1 Cellulose each day to every faction member
Minor Particle Accelerator: Provides +1 Unstable Isotopes each day to every faction member
Highly Experimental Matter Converter: Provides +1 Aberrant Matter each day to every faction member
Plasma Furnace: Provides +1 Plasma each day to every faction member
Experimental Fusion Plant: Provides +2 Plasma each day to every faction member
Explosives Facility: Provides each faction member with a free unit of dynamite each time he lands on a new planet.
Aperture Science Lab: Provides each faction member with a free teleport pad each time he lands on a new planet.
Nitrocellulose Facility: Increases the range of dynamite blasts for every faction member
Military Training Barracks: Increases victory chance of a quest when attacking another faction for each member participating
Military Education Center: Increases victory chance of a quest even further when attacking another faction for each member participating
Protective Shield Generator: Increases victory chance of a quest when consolidating own faction for each member participating
Biocide Coating Facility: Reduces effects of fungus and bacteria infections for each faction member
...well, I think you get the idea. If the developers say that this a good idea and they can make it, I think we could maka a lot of suggestions of buildings we would like to construct
Two things yet: I think it would be a good idea, if some buildings were more "specific" to certain factions. That's not to say "exclusive", but maybe cheaper. For Green, buildings with a straight productive bent, for Blue, buildings of a highly scientific and experimental type, and for Yellow, buildings with a rather militaric mentality.
And the other thing: Successfully attacking another faction should result in the random destruction of one of their buildings, so that it has to be rebuild!
Well, what do you think of that?
