Imagine this: You have an awesome mine on a terrestrial world, however for an upgrade you need you need to travel to a new world. If there were some kind of 'Recent Worlds' tab, which showed the 10 most recent planets, and then you could return at any time, this would be no problem. However, as it currently is, you would lose all that progress, which would be saddening .

While this is possible, this will surely bloat the save file size, probably to as much as 1 MB per person, this might put too much strain on the save storage servers. Voted "somewhat" for this. The idea is nice as is, but there are also some hidden troubles with game balance if this is to be implemented. Say you could then return to the first ever planet, and get 4 more chests with those upgrades you've amassed for the next 9 planets. (I've just got all 5 out of my 12th planet being terrestrial temperate, so this is quite possible that you do this in 9. And anyway, going back to the third isn't too different.)

I researched all possible technologies on my first play-through in 25 planets. I imagine that it could be done in a lot less.
I know what you mean- it was annoying to have to use up a perfectly good world to get one level of upgrade to go back to the same one you were just on- but I also got the sense that the final version wouldn't have a planet limit.

I understand what you mean, so let's change the idea up a bit, then. Instead of being a case of 'last 10 planets you visited' and more a case of 'set a world as a "return to" world which you could return to when you want'. This would reduce file size and, well, some people (like me) have pretty bad luck. Took aprox. 10 planets for my first chest using a 'tear up the whole freakin' planet' strategy. Having a world to return to for further digging, in my eyes, is logical (remember the co-ordinates of that planet for travel back for further digging) and kinda practical (don't wanna lose that lucky chest which you found that lands you right where you need.). So, in a nutshell, I understand what you mean, however some people like to not lose progress if, and when, possible. Yes, it is true that you can complete this quickly, with luck and good planning. However, as mentioned just before, my luck is bad and also I am not the most patient person in the world. Took an awful lot of tedious work and a lot of planet-hopping to get the chests required for some stuff. I could not even upgrade everything to MK-5 before hitting 50. If we could 'save' a world, then you would have a good place to continue mining in an area you know is a good planet. Also, on another note, I got lucky with a terrestrial temperate planet however shortly had to leave it due to a lack of Amethysts. Shame that, isnt it?

You should siphon each and every planet off nearly all reachable resources at once. You need amethysts - clear what you can here and advance to aerial world. You need coal/chitin - again, clear the planet and only then select terrestrial. Etc etc.

Etc etc. You can do that, but that will take ages, for you would need to try to dig all around the planet to find it on terrestrial. Besides, this addition would be COMPLETELY OPTIONAL. You would not have to set a home world to travel back to. You could play as if it wasn't there.

Unfortunately, the way the game is set up makes this impossible. The game never keeps track of planets, and always generates new ones. Besides the technical limitations that would require a LOT of things to be changed deep in the engine, making this change would render the "Least Planets Challenge" obsolete.
We like the idea of players trying to finish the story, or get all upgrades, in as few planets as possible; SO this proposed change is something that will probably not happen.
